Phase III of USO Solar Vector Magnetograph

چکیده
The Solar Vector Magnetograph (SVM) is a modern imaging spectropolarimeter installed at Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO). Earlier phases saw the development of the instrument using off-the-shelf components with in-house software development. Subsequently, improvements were done in the opto-mechanical design of the sub-systems and the telescope tracking system. The third phase of the instrument development saw three major improvements, these include: (i) installation of a web-camera based telescope guiding system, developed in-house, (ii) high-cadence spectropolarimetry using Liquid Crystal Variable Retarders and a fast CCD camera and (iii)inclusion of Na D1 line with regular photospheric Fe 630.2 nm line for chromospheric observations.

Evolution of helicity in NOAA 10923 over three consecutive solar rotations
We have studied the evolution of magnetic helicity and chirality in an active region over three consecutive solar rotations. The region when it first appeared was named NOAA10923 and in subsequent rotations it was numbered NOAA 10930, 10935 and 10941. We compare the chirality of these regions at photospheric, chromospheric and coronal heights. The observations used for photospheric and chromosp...

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE IMPROVEMENTS FOR DIGITAL SOLAR MAGNETOGRAPH SYSTEM by Shu Yang Digital solar imaging systems have been widely used in solar observations. Their high resolution, high rate of image acquisition and convenience for off-line image processing have provided significant improvements to solar physics research. In this project, two digital magnetograph systems established at Big Be...
متن کاملStray Light Effect on Magnetograph Observations
To examine stray light eeect in magnetograph observations, we have determined the point spread functions of the vector magnetograph mounted on the Japanese Solar Flare Telescope based on two indirect methods, one analyzing the solar limb intensity proole, and the other using the Fourier power spectra of photospheric intensity distributions. Point spread functions consist of two parts: a blurrin...
متن کاملVector Magnetic Fields and Electric Currents from the Imaging Vector Magnetograph
First, we describe a general procedure to produce high quality vector magnetograms using the Imaging Vector Magnetograph (IVM) at Mees Solar Observatory. Two IVM effects are newly discussed and taken into account: (1) the central wavelength of the Fabry-Pérot is found to drift with time as a result of undiagnosed thermal or mechanical instabilities in the instrument; (2) the Stokes V -sign conv...
متن کاملDifferent magnetic features between solar polar and equatorial magnetic fields
Solar polar and equatorial photospheric (FeIλ5324.19 Å line) magnetic fields have been observed using the vector video magnetograph at Huairou Solar Observing Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory. It is found from our observations that the magnetic fields of small-scale magnetic features near the solar poles are stronger than in quiet equatorial regions near the limb, and that strong pol...
